Video Journalist, BBC Russian Service

Job Introduction

BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.

As part of a historic and exciting expansion of the BBC World Service, BBC Russian has boosted its TV and digital offer to provide more mobile and TV/video content, and has further expanded its social media presence.

The expanded team is based in the BBC’s Moscow bureau and in the BBC’s headquarters in London, as well as in other countries, working closely and collaboratively (including with colleagues in BBC News) to deliver international news relevant to Russian-speaking audience and to put the events in Russia and the wider region in a global perspective.

We are looking for a talented Video Journalist to join the Russian service team in London.

Role Responsibility

As a Video Journalist for the BBC Russian service you will shoot, edit and deliver multimedia output for our TV and digital platforms. You will generate and develop stories relevant to a Russian speaking audience, which bring a global perspective to events in Russian and the wider region.

This is an essential role for the BBC Russian service. You will ensure that our newsgathering operations in the UK are organised, are up to the highest editorial standards and meet the guidelines of the BBC.

You will pioneer new digital story telling techniques and formats, as well as new ways of gathering and processing material from the field.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a wealth of experience in digital video storytelling with a thorough understanding of the latest technical developments in newsgathering. You will be skilled in shooting and editing, and will have demonstrable experience in a similar role within a news environment.   

You will be fluent in Russian and English, both written and spoken, and will have an in-depth understanding of the history, politics, social issues and culture of our audience.

Package Description

Role based in London

Continuing (permanent) contract

Grade 7 – Proposed banding C

Salary up to £38,759 per annum, including all allowances
