Service Editor, Tamil - Delhi

The Tamil service is a digital first service at the heart of the Asia region. They find innovative and distinctive ways of covering the key regional and global stories and at the same time, leading the way with strong original journalism.

We have a really exciting opportunity for a Tamil Service Editor to join the Delhi team and lead the service. The role is to ensure the team makes content to the highest of standards for the Tamil speaking audiences in India and worldwide to the best of BBC standards.

Role Responsibility

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and strong individual with a solid background in editorial and journalism to lead the Tamil Service as Editor in Delhi. This role will have huge responsibility in ensuring that the content to the Tamil speaking audiences worldwide is to the highest standards of journalism and is always delivered in accordance with the BBC editorial guidelines. On a more day to day basis the Tamil Editor will be fundamentally responsible for approving and signing off the content produced on TV and on digital output, he/she will also play a key role in selecting specific stories and series to  be aired via the Tamil service and be responsible for managing the Tamil service and driving it forward in terms of creating new and innovative ways of broadcasting news via digital outlets that may not have been done previously. Aside from the latter the Tamil Editor will be the role model for the Tamil Service and be its driving force in terms of expansion.

The Ideal Candidate

As the ideal candidate you must have a lengthy and successful background in a similar role in order to step into the responsibility this role carries easily. It is essential that you have a great understanding of the different news trends and topics broadcasted in India and to the different Indian speaking audiences, you have experience of managing an editorial team, vast knowledge of delivering output via digital and social media outlets, thorough knowledge of British, Indian and international current affairs and you must be passionate about delivering accurate and authentic news to Tamil speaking audiences across India in line with the BBC’s strategy for India.

It is essential that you are fluent in both Tamil and English, written and spoken.
