Senior Software Engineer - DevOps / AWS / Ruby
We’re looking for a passionate software engineer to join our Frameworks & Tools team.
You’ll be joining a small, focused team working on reusable platform components. You will design solutions based around AWS infrastructure, have an in-depth knowledge of DevOps and experience in a language like Ruby. You’ll be passionate about continuous integration solutions, fault tolerance, multi region architectures, , monitoring, security.
Your team will own the design and build of tools and services that keep our products running well. You’ll provide capabilities as-a-service for other teams to use and be a centre of excellence for our use of Cloud technologies to deliver high quality unbiased journalism to millions people a day, in the UK and around the world.
The right candidate will be someone with a strong interest for high quality coding and devops who is quick and keen to learn and adapt and who enjoys iterating their ideas in an agile fashion working as part of a team.
Our website often gets 50 million hits in a day. Our mobile apps are used by millions. We’ve seen higher than 1.8 million concurrent users on our site and try to support every device we can, from simpler mobile phones to connected TVs. Our broadcast output is watched and listened to by people across the country and the world.
We're based in New Broadcasting House, near Oxford Circus, a few floors above the biggest newsroom in Europe.
Work across disciplines to build strong and scalable products for our audiences;
Lead the design and building of cloud services
Automate build and deployment processes
Implement and configure development tools
Implement and support our monitoring tools
Design and configure continuous integration build systems
Develop load tests to enhance throughput and availability
The Ideal Candidate
Experience with Cloud architecture and the core AWS technologies;
Writing good quality and maintainable code with languages like Ruby;
Defining and developing high-volume, horizontally scalable web architectures.
Supporting high traffic applications with occasional load spikes;
HTTP, Caching, CDNs, TLS, core Internet protocols and technologies;
Engaged in the wider Web engineering community.
