Role Responsibility

Technical:

  • Developing and supporting BBC.com AWS cloud infrastructure and core systems software components
  • Contributing towards technical design
  • Working on large existing codebases
  • Practicing professional disciplines such as Test-Driven Development, Clean Code principles and the Twelve Factors
  • Building excellently engineered, high availability solutions to handle huge volumes of traffic
  • Ensuring technical quality meets the needs for a fast, reliable products that run at scale

People

  • A collaborative, respectful and forward-looking approach to software development
  • Working with Product, Delivery & and Design on enhancing existing products and developing new ones
  • Working closely with our operational support teams to ensure our solutions our supportable, scalable and reliable
  • Excellent communication skills, translating complicated technical detail into plain English
  • A willingness to learn and develop new and existing skills

Delivery:

  • Delivering features using pragmatic agile development practices
  • Seeking out new tools and methodologies to evolve our development processes
  • Solve operational issues
  • Assisting with recruiting, mentoring and training new team members

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to strengthen and support our small group of DevOps Engineers and Technical Architects.

The existing DevOps team values the importance of nurturing a cohesive team that functions as a whole, but whose members are self-directed, focussed and hands-on. 

Experience is required in the following areas

  • Go
  • Docker
  • Microservice Architectures
  • AWS – inc. Cloudformation, EC2, ECS, Lambda, CloudFront, S3, SNS, SQS, Route53, IAM
  • Linux, bash, scripting & sys-admin

Familiarity essential in the following software development tools

  • Git
  • Agile / Kanban
  • Jira
