Senior Producer (Multimedia) - Russian Service
The BBC’s Moscow Bureau is one of seven hub bureaux around the world and as such is among the busiest and most challenging of broadcast environments. The Bureau incorporates the following BBC services: Newsgathering, Russian Service, Monitoring. Working together, these services provide BBC programmes, including business and online services, with broadcast news and current affairs material of the highest possible editorial, production and technical standards gathered in the most efficient manner on a range of subjects.
News from Russia and the Former Soviet Union occupies an important place in the global news agenda and the BBC seeks to remain a competitive, respected and reliable source of information from across the region.
We are recruiting a Senior Producer (Multimedia) to lead a team of dedicated reporters who are covering mostly political issues in Russia. You'll desk edit the multiplatform material, ensuring that output conforms to the highest editorial and production standards; is lively and interesting and of relevance to the target area; and that the BBC’s editorial guidelines are adhered to. You'll oversee coverage so that all stories are reported in a multimedia way. Working alongside other Editors and Senior Producers, you'll act as a point of editorial reference, providing editorial leadership as required. You'll need to work closely with colleagues in Moscow and the team in London to ensure a seamless transition between teams, to contribute to the planned coverage of upcoming stories and to ensure 360 degree commissioning. The key duties include subbing online, audio and video stories; making suggestions on deployments and commissions.
The Ideal Candidate
You will need to be fluent in English, both in written and spoken form, with an ability to communicate effectively on a high level. A full command and up-to-date knowledge of the Russian language (first language or equivalent) is essential. You'll need significant experience as a broadcast or print journalist for the target area with an ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences. You'll also need to demonstrate a wide and up-to-date familiarity with the target area and an in-depth understanding of its history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience.
