Senior Journalist, World Online Asia
The BBC News website is one of the world’s largest and most popular news sites, with mobile and desktop editions for different geographic audiences, and UK-facing and International-facing apps. Website teams work closely with other BBC platforms and services to showcase the best journalism from across the BBC.
Senior Journalists in the team write, edit and shape the website’s international news coverage and set our agenda on a day-to-day basis. They are also responsible for helping to build the reach and reputation of our digital services.
You will write, commission, produce and sub-edit content about Asia for the UK and international editions of the BBC News website and related services. The content will include video and social news, explainers, analysis and features. You will shape our material for mobile audiences and ensure we reach new and underserved audiences like younger women. You will be expected to commission and produce outstanding text journalism, digital video and social news, as well as developing new ways of telling stories.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have a proven track record at a senior level in News as well as sound editorial judgement and a comprehensive understanding of the BBC's editorial policies. In addition, you will have:
- Substantial experience of writing and sub-editing text for digital news audiences
- Substantial experience producing and commissioning digital video for website and social audience
- Substantial experience of content management systems like CPS
- A strong track record of covering the international news agenda, especially in Asia.
- Experience of using audience analytics tools to improve our coverage
- A thorough understanding of the importance of social media to our story-telling
- An ability to innovate to create outstanding digital journalism
- Strong leadership skills
