Senior Journalist (Social Media), BBC Urdu Service
BBC Urdu provides news and current affairs to Urdu speaking audiences through broadcast and digital media on radio, TV, social and mobile platforms. In line with World Service Group innovation objectives of reaching new audiences, BBC Urdu is expanding its digital platform.
The media market in Pakistan and the rest of the region has become increasingly sophisticated and competitive over the last decade. Combined with a predominantly young generation, the emerging environment has led to modern news consumption habits that present a challenge to the BBC to retain its highly respected and dependable market position.
We are now looking for a highly experienced and digital minded Journalist to join the Islamabad team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and publishing all social media output, digital content and videos to serve our Urdu audiences. You will collaborate with other editors to create and deliver on a social media strategy that increases traffic for Urdu’s digital and social platforms.
Connecting with underserved audiences is important for BBC Urdu, the successful candidate will seek ways to reach female and younger audiences and will implement plans to improve engagement.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a proven record of leading a social media and digital team, ideally in Urdu, and experience in a multimedia journalism role. You will have the ability to edit and repackage video using systems such as Jupiter and FCP, with a deep understanding of digital platforms and how they can be used to improve our audience reach on social media.
It is essential that applicants are fluent in Urdu and English, both written and spoken with a knowledge of Pakistan and South Asian affairs.
