Senior Journalist, Production
BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.
Following 2020 investment, the Asia Region has doubled in size, making it the largest region in World Service Languages. With the launch of Korean, Thai and the 4 new Indian Language services, we have now 16 services producing content in London and 10 overseas bureaus. This brings an opportunity to benefit from economies of scale through all our editorial processes as well as provide wider and more innovative content for our audiences.
To achieve our objectives of transforming digitally, producing more high impact original journalism and reaching younger and more female audiences, we are modernizing our planning structure and strategy. By converging our planning and digital teams, we are creating a Production Hub to drive innovation and collaboration, both within the Asia Region language services and the wider BBC.
The Senior Journalist, based in Hong Kong, will report to the Asia Senior News Editor, Production, based in London. She/he will play a key role in forward planning and support the Asia Production Hub in the hours before London colleagues start work. Based in the target time zone and closer to our audiences, the Senior Journalist will help kickstart the daily news agenda for the region in collaboration with planning leads and senior Languages colleagues in the Asia Region bureaux including Delhi.
