Senior Journalist, BBC Ukrainian
The Ukrainian Service is one of 42 language services in the BBC World Service. It has a multiplatform website and a large amount of video, interactive and audio content. Most of the team are located in Kyiv, with a few Journalists in London.
The service’s output aims to make international news relevant to the Ukrainian audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Ukrainian developments. It aims to report in a lively and engaging fashion, and interactivity forms a large part of its content across all platforms.
We are recruiting a Senior Journalist who will be responsible for an area of output, including editorial control, reporting, selection and compilation of material, production, leading teams and planning and implementing effective use of resources. Working alongside TV, Social Media and Multimedia desks, you'll act as a point of editorial reference for journalists and correspondents, providing editorial leadership as required. You'll use editorial judgement, creativity and flair to make original and compelling multimedia content. You'll also offer ideas for daily output and future diary events, suggesting new angles on existing stories and putting forward stories not yet covered. You'll need to understand the BBC Ukrainian strategy and suggest ideas appropriate to its distinctive style and content.
The Ideal Candidate
Candidates must demonstrate fluency in written and spoken Ukrainian and English with the ability to communicate in both languages effectively, including the ability to edit and oversee texts and adapt with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media. You'll also need a high standard of editorial judgement, writing ability and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience.
Contract: 12 months
