Senior Broadcast Journalist/Presenter, BBC Arabic XTRA
BBC ARABIC is the largest BBC World Service language service, providing news and current affairs on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and beyond. The service is multi-media in operation for daily newsgathering and daily, weekly and long-term planning, whilst output streams are run by single media teams. BBC Arabic increasingly collaborates and provides material for other language outlets and platforms. A major part of BBC Arabic’s output is made up of long form programmes, documentaries and investigations, produced in-house by the BBC Arabic Programmes unit.
As a Senior Broadcast Journalist you will take a role in bearing editorial responsibility for the day-to-day programme output. You will primarily work on BBC XTRA, a flagship daily radio magazine programme, which also goes out weekly on television. However, you may also be asked to work on other programmes within the Programmes unit of BBC Arabic.
We are currently looking for journalists with a proven solid editorial judgement and excellent presentation skills to join BBC XTRA across radio and TV presenting, producing and developing programmes.
BBC XTRA has an excellent reputation for creativity and hard hitting social stories as well as the latest from the worlds of arts, culture, science, technology and sports. This is delivered daily live on radio and weekly on TV in a modern and relaxed presentation style. The BBC XTRA team is very hard working and well organised with excellent team spirit, something that the new Senior Broadcast Journalists will need to maintain
The Ideal Candidate
You will need fluency in both written and spoken Arabic (as first or equivalent language) and the ability to communicate fluently and effectively in English. You will be an experienced journalist and team leader with extensive experience of live daily journalism and a track record of story-breaking journalism, with sound editorial judgment. Proven knowledge of the Arab world affairs and stories is key, along with a good awareness of the range of BBC Arabic outlets. And we need your proven ability to supervise the journalistic work of others and manage staff, including assisting in their training and development.
You must have the ability to gain a good knowledge of the main production methods and technology used by BBC Arabic. You will also need good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload, and work flexibly within financial constraints, often under pressure to tight deadlines.
12 month attachment/fixed term contract
Salary up to £46,000 (inclusive of allowances)
