Senior Broadcast Journalist, Planning - BBC Nepali
BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.
The BBC Nepali Service is one of the services in Global News Languages with a multi-platform website having text, photos, video and audio content. The service’s output aims to serve Nepali-speaking audience in Nepal and worldwide. BBC Nepali is one of the major players in Nepali media market and trusted source of domestic and international news delivered on radio, social and digital formats. BBC Nepali Service aims to make international news relevant to Nepali audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Nepali and global developments.
As the service is investing heavily in digital innovation in a challenging market we are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to work as a Senior Broadcast Journalist- Planning to assist the BBC Nepali editor in the daily running, planning and innovation in our Kathmandu bureau.
The Senior Broadcast Journalist will work to the Service Editor supervising a team of Broadcast Journalists in shaping on-the-day content for BBC Nepali. You will use your editorial judgement to bring creative flair in compelling visual content and you will work across our Online and Radio output ensuring that the highest quality content is created for our audiences as well as contribute and participate in new media platforms. You will have excellent knowledge of the audience needs in Nepal, India and South Asia both digitally and on radio.
Due to the nature of this role, flexibility is required and shift work may be required.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be fluent in Nepali (written and spoken), with an excellent command of English.
You will be aware of social trends in Nepal, India and South Asia, and be able to make informed decisions on upcoming stories based on these and be able to manage a team of broadcast journalists and graphic designers to produce creative and original graphics sequences, that can be reversioned and used by other BBC departments.
