Manager, Distribution Development, BBC World Service
BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on radio, TV, online and mobile handheld devices that reaches a global audience of 269million people. Getting the right content to the right place in the world 24/7/365 requires a wide variety of systems to operate a completely automated process.
World Service Distribution are a small team responsible for the systems and operations used to schedule and distribute WS broadcast programmes ensuring they reach their audience by satellite, and terrestrial transmitters. Managing a diverse asset base we seek an experienced project delivery professional to manage our developments team, our investment budget and to deliver change consistently and safely. You need to be experienced and confident in managing a diverse portfolio of projects and providing leadership to our professional team.
As Manager, Distribution Developments, you will be responsible for the delivery of capital projects required to support the business. You will manage and monitor the professional execution of technology-based projects, ensuring that they are appropriately resourced, both in terms of staff and support infrastructure, and are aligned with our technical strategy. You will also ensure that these projects deliver in budget and in time and that we meet our customers’ expectations. Advising managers at all levels in World Service on Transmission and distribution technology, you will also organise technology briefings as required. And you will contribute to WS Distribution’s business strategy by maintaining close links with industry, clients, and national/international groups.
In addition, you will lead and motivate staff a small team, ensuring that they receive core skills and technical training, career development objectives and appraisals.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an experienced engineer or technology delivery specialist and you will have significant project management experience in a technology and or construction environment. A track record of managing risk in a project environment is required and we need your experience of managing multidisciplinary projects including civil/construction works and technology. In addition, you will have significant team management experience and record of on target delivery including performance management
