Job Introduction

BBC Global News Ltd (“BBC GN”) is the commercial arm of the BBC’s global News division and brings together the BBC’s biggest TV channel - BBC World News, which is watched by almost 100 million people each week, BBC.com - the BBC’s international news, sport and features website, and the advertising sales and commercial content production division of the BBC.

We are currently for a Lawyer to join our legal and business affairs team, primarily to provide support to the advertising teams globally (including StoryWorks, the content marketing team within BBC Advertising creating branded and partnered content).  This is a permanent role, based in London.

Role Responsibility

This is a junior-mid level lawyer role reporting to BBC GN’s Head of Legal & Business Affairs, with a particular focus on the global advertising sales teams and the branded content production creative unit, BBC Storyworks.  You will be supporting the advertising sales teams as a trusted advisor and providing responsive and consistent legal advice and support.

The role involves a varied workload and working both independently and as part of the team to support colleagues based in the UK and at our 15 other offices around the world.  You will be working alongside 5 other lawyers and senior lawyers providing commercial, contractual, and regulatory advice to all parts of the business.

This opportunity would suit an individual who has a genuine passion for a career in-house at a media organisation and who is self-motivated and keen to learn.

The Ideal Candidate

A qualified lawyer or CILEX graduate with 3-5 years PQE and a good grounding in commercial/contract law, you will possess a broad understanding of and solid experience in negotiating advertising media sales and commercial content production agreements, ideally supported through experience of working in a media publishing, content marketing or advertising environment operating across multiple jurisdictions, particularly the US and Canada.

It is essential that you possess experience of undertaking complex contract negotiations and drafting in a fast paced technology driven environment, across a range of contract types. An understanding of and experience in ad tech, media production, data privacy issues, and media regulation is also required.

Confident in dealing with a wide range of legal matters, you’ll demonstrate sound judgment and strong analytical skills.  Combined with effective communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll possess the ability to establish and maintain credibility and effective working relationships, across a range of levels.

Salary Band £46,210 - £68,800 pa + London Weighting (£4,682pa).
