The BBC has been broadcasting for many decades to Afghanistan and the surrounding region in a range of languages. As a result we have built a very strong brand. Our latest research figures show that 73% of adults in Afghanistan have listened to our Radio output, and we have large audiences on TV and Digital. As the Bureau Editor, based in Kabul, Afghanistan, you will strive to continue our brand growth through supervision and creation of outstanding media output in all the relevant languages.
You will be responsible for editorial management of the BBC Kabul Bureau. You will be expected to lead, inspire and manage a multi-disciplined, multi-lingual team of more than 70 people in Kabul and across Afghanistan. Using your planning and organisational skills, you will supervise the Bureau’s output to ensure the production of high quality, creative and original multimedia output.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for an experienced, talented and successful journalist, with a proven track record of impartial journalism and sound editorial leadership experience in either radio, television or digital media. You will demonstrate this through your sound editorial judgement, allied with a proven record of introducing creative output ideas. These skills will be supplemented by your extensive knowledge of Afghanistan, its media market and the needs of our audiences on all platforms. Broadcast level fluency in Pashto, Dari and English is an essential requirement, as is strong managerial experience.
