Journalist (Presenter), BBC Arabic Xtra
BBC Arabic is the largest language service of the BBC, providing news and current affairs on Radio, TV, Digital and Social Media to our Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and beyond. Our service is a multi-media newsgathering operation for daily, weekly and long-term planning.
BBC Xtra is our flagship news magazine pan-Arab program on BBC Arabic Radio. In trend-setting and contemporary style, Xtra has developed an excellent reputation for creativity and delivering hard hitting social affairs stories as well as the latest news and views from the worlds of arts, culture, science, technology and more.
We are now looking for a journalist with presenting skills to join our Cairo based team on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
You will be a regular voice on BBC Xtra and will participate in all aspects of the whole program, from presenting to producing. As presenter, you will present the programme, live or recorded. As producer, you will work on the running order and produce the live show from the studio. From time to time you may report and interview from the field.
BBC Xtra is broadcast over 90 minutes every weekday with a special two hour edition every Saturday. On a day to day basis you will present, conduct interviews, chair discussions, offer story ideas and prepare packages which inform, educate and entertain our Arabic speaking audiences in an interactive style which has proved very popular with our listeners around the Arab world.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced broadcast journalist with a proven track record in presenting, producing and reporting. You will have experience of originating and developing creative and thought-provoking program ideas and you will have excellent independent and balanced editorial judgement. Fluency in Arabic (written and spoken) is essential. An excellent command of English language is also important. You will have practical experience of using social media and have sound knowledge of digital journalism.
