Journalist, BBC Arabic (Dunyana)
BBC Arabic is the largest BBC language service, providing news, current affairs and programmes on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The output is modern in style and outlook and adheres to BBC values of accuracy and impartiality. It has broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures.
We are now looking for a Journalist to join our team in Beirut.
Working under the supervision of Assistant Editors and Senior Journalists, you'll produce accurate, informed and interesting content to the highest possible standards. You'll originate and produce, as part of a team, a wide variety of news and current affairs content. This will involve producing in-house TV news packages, segments and graphics to a high standard using modern production tools, recording packages and soundbites in broadcast quality and writing creative TV news in Arabic to the highest linguistic standards. You'll translate pieces from English to Arabic, and vice versa, providing analysis on the latest updates about the Middle East region.
The Ideal Candidate
You'll need significant recent experience as a journalist including experience of reporting and being on screen. You'll be able to structure and script a report demonstrating editorial depth and a wide knowledge of current affairs, in addition to cultural and social affairs, in the Arab region. You'll need to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of social media and knowledge of how to increase the presence of social media in the programme. Good written and spoken command of both Arabic and English is essential.
