General Manager, Operations
International News is at the heart of the BBC. BBC News Group employs approximately 2,000 staff in 74 news bureaux around the world. It provides multimedia services to a global weekly audience of over 350 million, in English and 42 languages around the clock, every day of the year. The bureaux react to breaking news, provide news updates and analysis and produce live programme and online output. In a highly competitive market, delivering to both UK Licence Fee payers and commercial partners, BBC News services must be reliable and consistent and continue to meet the high standards expected by our audiences.
The successful candidate will support WS India (Private) Ltd. which operates BBC News Group operations throughout India. Working directly with local editorial leads, you will be responsible for the professional support of our Indian bureaux output, this includes but not limited to Production Operations, Engineering, Administration, Facilities management, Security, Health and Safety, Risk management, and Business Continuity.
Duties will include the management of staff of 45+, responsibility for the operation of our offices, and its preparedness to meet our Indian operation needs. You will also meet our requirement to follow local legislation as well as working within a BBC framework. You will work closely with subject matter experts from the UK and will be directly line managed from the UK but your key stakeholders will be the Editorial leads in India.
The Ideal Candidate
We are now looking for an experienced General Manager to join our India operation, primarily working from our Delhi office. Our Indian operation consists of 350 staff located in 6 offices across India. You should be a driven and focussed individual who can operate in a pressurised media environment. You should have experience in managing large diverse teams and developing individuals to maximise their potential, and operate at the highest levels that our editorial teams expect.
