BBC Global News Limited (BBC GNL) owns and operates the BBC’s commercially funded, international news platforms, bringing together the 24/7 BBC World News television channel with the bbc.com news, sport and features sites. Our ambition is to maximise the quality of BBC News outside of the UK, focusing on delivering a commercially funded, but public service driven, news business.
The BBC GNL Engineering and Operations team is responsible for the technology that underpins the origination and global distribution of BBC World News, including media management, multi-channel scheduling and playout, access services and satellite, fibre and internet contribution/distribution networks. Our work enables viewers in over 450 million homes worldwide to receive BBC World News, and for new commercial opportunities to be realised.
Working within BBC GNL Engineering and Operations, the Engineering Manager is a multi-functional role, solving complex technical problems, delivering new projects and innovations, and working with BBC stakeholders and third party service providers to ensure the continuous transmission and technical development of BBC World News.
As part of a small team of Engineering Managers with subject matter expertise across the broadcast chain, you will take ownership of specific technology areas, ensuring a high level of service and becoming the go-to person for internal and external contacts alike.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have substantial experience in technical service management and/or service delivery in a broadcast environment. You will be organised with strong attention to detail, frequently working across a number of different areas with competing demands on your time. You will also be adept at understanding new technologies, conveying complex concepts, and building productive relationships with internal stakeholders and key service providers.
