Data Analyst, BBC World Service

Job Introduction

The World Service has partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in an ambitious three year project to deliver compelling stories across platforms on the theme of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) with a specific focus on ten African countries: Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Niger, Senegal and Tanzania.

The data analyst will be responsible for producing impact and audience reports, and supporting the smooth and effective running of the partnership project. They will work alongside the production teams in London, Lagos, and Nairobi, and keep abreast of all content produced and published on BBC platforms. They will oversee the social and digital output as well, and help ensure optimum impact and reach for this project.

Role Responsibility

  • Deliver analysis using defined analysis toolings with support leveraging the full breadth of functionality to deliver value to the business.
  • Support more senior analytics colleagues in delivering projects and fielding queries.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation & knowledge hub.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in the field
  • Helping non-data oriented colleagues understand where analysis can help them with their day to day roles
  • Working with colleagues to ensure consistent data quality

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of working with social and digital audience measurement tools and platforms such as Lumen, Chartbeat, Telescope, FB analytics, etc.
  • Ability to compile ad hoc and in-depth impact, audience, and reach reports and presentations for internal or external stakeholders.
  • Be able to create a user-friendly document and project management system and timeline for communication and delivery of project and ensure adherence to it.
  • Experience in account management and financial reporting using tools such as Slack, Trello, Samrtsheet, Smartbook, CRM, SAP, etc.
  • Demonstrable ability to maintain a communications plan, organise communications activities and assist the project leaders in delivering communications, including assessing impact, reach, and value to ensure continuous improvement.
  • A recognised project management qualification or demonstrable career development activities.
