BBC Pidgin digital service aims to deliver our journalism in a lively and engaging fashion, with a focus on interactivity and the promotion of content on social media and across all platforms. As one of our video journalist you’ll have a crucial role in leading our engagement with the audience.
By joining BBC Pidgin, you’ll be a part of the new team, including Yoruba and Igbo, which will serve our audiences in Nigeria and West Africa. They will be based in Lagos, working alongside our operation in Abuja from where the BBC currently produces its Hausa service output. There is a strong emphasis on reaching and connecting with young audiences.
We are now looking for a creative and versatile journalist and producer who is a passionate evangelist of digital story telling.
We are looking for a creative and experienced journalist with an excellent understanding of what makes brilliant digital video.
In this role you will identify and produce engaging and innovating video content. You will also re-version material for BBC Pidgin social media and digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and our BBC website.
You will research and produce stories, create headlines and video teasers and show visual creativity in the use of pictures and graphics to illustrate and explain fast-moving events and complex stories.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate, who will be reporting to the Editor, BBC News Pidgin Service, will be an experienced journalist from a newsroom environment. You will have experience in video production, editing, shoot- edit and storytelling with an in-depth knowledge of digital and social platforms.
Demonstrable experience of using video editing software is essential (FCPX would be a distinct advantage).
Finally, you will have a fluent understanding of Pidgin, both written and spoken, together with sound knowledge of news and current affairs globally as well as in Africa.
